K. L. Cook serves as a judge for the 2009-11 Willie Morris Award for Southern Fiction. He also began a five-year tenure as a member of the Advisory Board for the Prairie Schooner Book Prizes, including service as a judge for the 2010 Prairie Schooner Book Prize in Fiction.
